Our New House: The Process and Details

Thank you for all the congratulations on our good news on Thursday! The house is officially ours!

It's such an amazing feeling to finally be able to call our home our own. We got the keys 3 days ago and we have been trying to prep the house in time before we need to be out of our landlord's condo (which is tomorrow!) We haven't really even packed anything yet! So needless to say, we have been, and will be crazy busy during the transition. But I'm super excited to keep you all up to date with the house progress!

We have so many plans and ideas that we will be working on over time, but I am so ready to start seeing the transformation now! I immediately got started on paint swatches on the walls, and Chad started prep work for new tile in the bathrooms. Stay tuned, we will share on those projects soon!

Here is what we have planned for our living area:

Currently, the house has some funky paint going on downstairs that we aren't crazy about. I feel like the orange sponged walls + beige + reddish hardwood floors are making it too enclosed and everything is clashing. Since our house is small, I was trying to think of ideas to brighten up the room and make it feel larger. I want the colors of the entire house to flow, so I created this color palette to get an idea of how it will all look:

I have completely fallen in love with the minimalist look for main living areas, especially a light gray, and then using pops of color with throw pillows, or curtains.  What advice do you have for making rooms feel larger? I would love to hear the comments below!

  1. Congrats to you and Chad!! I hope he's handy, lol! Lighter, brighter colors usually work for making rooms look and feel bigger. Also having a lot of light, using mirrors to reflect natural light. Use sheer curtains. Not having big, bulky furniture helps too. I personally love crown molding but I don't know if that makes a room look bigger or not. I think it really stands out. If Chad can do that, I'd put that on a to do list. Maybe not right away, but for future fixes. :)

    1. Thank you, Stacy! The mirrors are a great idea! I'd love to add crown molding but I think that will probably come last after all of the other projects.
